6 feet travel

Rekha asked me to go through a link which talks about travelling when you are young. Reasons?. Learning new culture, compassion and adventure filled life. Well, that is true. I liked it.

Travelling big time is something close to my heart. Most of my salary during HAL period was spent on travelling. There is something innate joyful when you travel. I see many new faces, new ways of earning money and new ways of learning about this mysterious world. I see people zooming off in their air conditioned benz cars on high ways and people sweating their heart out to lay tar road on hot sunny afternoon. I see monuments which stood testimony to trying times of themselves and of things around them. I see ages of history slipping on the face of time.

There was a popular TV show in my childhood named 'Vihari' on some telugu tv channel. Those were the days when internet was not at our feet to fetch slightest of information as fast as possible. That show opened doors to the world to me. That is when I started seeing thing beyond bharatnagar market, erragadda bridge and mom's khairatabad school. Though I studied early in my childhood that there are more than 195 countries in the world, that show gave me a sense what it actually meant.

I traveled to many places in karnataka. Almost every weekend during 2010. My manager and colleagues at HAL, i'm sure, would endorse it. I felt great peace when travelling. That is the time when I actually spent ONLY FOR MYSELF. I'm not being selfish. But travelling, observing and learning new things somehow inspired me a lot. Of course, it cost me big time though :)

There are days when I used to dream of being a NATGEO traveller who gets chance to visit all corners of the world and show the world how small 'their' individual world is. May be one day, I will.

But when I joined IIM B, priorities shifted and my travelling ventures came to a halt(I did not go even to a single trek organized by Anveshan - The adventure club of IIM B). I found over time that it is not just travel that I cherish, it is the solitude in the travel. My horoscope tells that I shall be a great admirer of fine art, food and places. Here, yes, I think horoscope is true.

Thanks to facebook, I come to know about all the places friends go. I studiously list them in an excel sheet by country. One day I am going to visit them all and might own some property there too :) .

Amidst all these travel dreams, an eternal truth stares in my face. No matter who you are and where you are, the only real CONNECTION that you would have with this beautiful world will be 6 feet of soil. And you never know where your six feet is....!! No one wants to know..rite?
